Emma Kathleen (Mandly), 94, of Columbus Ohio, passed into Eternal Rest from natural causes while asleep on Wednesday, November 24,2021 at Chestnut Hill Senior Living in Columbus, Ohio. She was the widow of her high school sweetheart, Lewis A. Newhard, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. Emma was born on September 10, 1927 in the farmhouse where she grew up in the small town of Tonawanda, New York. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Adamek) Mandly of Tonawanda, New York. In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Emma was also preceded in death by her daughter, MaryBeth, one brother and five sisters.
Emma loved her family and was proud of her Hungarian heritage. She enjoyed sharing her heritage with her children. She delighted in making Hungarian dishes and pastries for the Holiday gatherings creating special memories for everyone. Emma took great pleasure in taking care of the many birds that frequented her back yard. She especially enjoyed the Cardinals. She also derived great pleasure in tending her flower gardens that were planted around the house. Her green thumb kept them thriving.
Emma was a 1946 graduate of Kenmore High School. After leaving New York the family moved to Pittsburgh in the early 1960's and then to Columbus in 1968. She retired from Mt. Carmel East Hospital after 25 years of employment. She then continued on as a volunteer for several years. She was a member of St. Pius X Church in Reynoldsburg Ohio.
Emma is survived by her children, Lewis (Debra) Newhard, Eileen (Scott) Richards, Michael (Patty) Newhard and Alicia Rausch; seven grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; her twin sister, Anna Massey and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a private service held for the immediate family members. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Carmel Hospice in Emma's memory. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Chestnut Hill Memory Care Unit for the warm, loving, and excellent care she was provided while a resident.
