Frank Raymond Shirey, 87, passed away at his home in Reynoldsburg on Monday, June 20th. He was born on May 5, 1935, to the late Frank and Edna (Scholl) Shirey in Columbus, Ohio. Frank served 8 years in the Navy Reserve before joining the Truro Township Fire Department in 1957. He served as the first full-time Assistant Fire Chief for 25 years before his retirement in 1995. Frank loved his family and greatly enjoyed spending time with them. He loved Christmas, going to Florida, and going to his sons' property in McConnelsville. He also loved his home and those who have traveled down Graham Road will always remember his house as the one with all of the beautiful hanging baskets of geraniums.
Surviving family includes his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothy (O'Neil), sons Michael (Donna) and John (Cheryl) Shirey, and daughter Christine Shirey; Grandchildren, Michael (Kelli) Shirey Jr, Rachele and Brynner Rice, Kim (Greg) Epley, and Dustin Kannard; Great-grandchildren, Michael and Max Shirey and Jaxson Kannard, He is also survived by sisters Mary Weltner and Carol Dray and brother Joe Shirey in addition to many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors at Pfiefer Funeral Home 7915 E Main Street Reynoldsburg, on Monday, June 27th from 4-7pm. Catholic Mass will be held at Holy Cross Church, 204 S. 5th Street, Columbus at 10:00am on Tuesday, June 28th, followed immediately with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, 11539 National Road SW, Etna, Ohio.
