Gertrude Kay Rannebarger, age 78, of Reynoldsburg, passed away on February 11, 2021 at home, surrounded by family. Gertrude was born December 20, 1942 to the late Jacob and Elizabeth (Roeder) Friebis in Columbus. She grew up in Columbus, Ohio and attended South High School. Gert had a successful ice cream business, The Eskimo Igloo, that she and her husband Don operated for 15 years. Once retired from the ice cream business, she went to work for the Reynoldsburg Kroger. She worked in the deli for the next 14 years untill retirement. Gert was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Grandma. She made friends everywhere she went. Gert loved Christmas. It was her favorite holiday. She will be fondly remembered for making it a special day bringing together family and friends. It was a day she always started with breakfast then gifts and ended with a larger dinner. Gert will always be remembered for being the caring kindhearted person who would help anyone in need. Her life was blessed with the love of her family and many friends. Gertrude is survived by her loving husband; Donald W. Rannebarger, Sr.; daughters, Tracy (Andrew) Hedges, Jenny Rannebarger; son, Donald W. (Andrea Whisman) Rannebarger Jr.; grandchildren, Drew, Taylor, Leah, Gabrielle, Emma; brothers, Chuck (Betty) Friebis, Bob Friebis; sisters, Sue Friebis, Judy Grubba; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother, Jim Friebis. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gertrude’s memory to the Mt. Carmel Hospice.
