Lois Jean Brown, age 88, of Reynoldsburg, formerly of Columbus, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, passed away on March 13, 2020. Jean was born April 4, 1931, to the late Ray and Helen Garrabrant in Columbus. She was married to Dale A. Brown of Columbus, OH on November 26, 1947. Dale passed away on April 13, 1987. Jean is survived by her four sons; David (Karen) Brown of Delray Beach, FL, Robert (Brenda) Brown of Reno, NV, Donald R. (Mary Jane) Brown of Maineville, OH, Kenneth (Alexandra) Brown of Elgin, TX; grandchildren, Jessica (Matthew) Brown Waesche, Nathan Brown, Lorena Brown, Douglas (Amanda) Brown, Emily Brown, Sophia Brown; great-grandchildren, Samuel Brown, Maren Brown; and her brother, James Garrabrant of Reynoldsburg. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Dale A. Brown; and her parents, Ray and Helen of New Albany.
Jean loved reading, traveling, volunteering at Whitehall Methodist Church, where she was a longtime member, and above all, spending time with her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed working with preschoolers in Sunday school, and spending holidays with family at their various homes. Other travels took her to San Francisco and Yosemite, Washington DC, North and South Carolina, Florida, Texas, Louisiana, with one special trip to London and Paris.
Jean had a talent for numbers and was known, more than once, to help friends do their taxes. She worked for a time for J.C. Penney, selling custom drapes and décor items. A great proponent of education, Jean encouraged her children throughout their schooling, and always took delight in watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow and develop.
A voracious reader, Jean could read through several books a week, and enjoyed attending Book Club and Current Events meetings at Wesley Ridge Retirement Community, where she lived for seven years. She also enjoyed art classes and musical performances at Wesley Ridge. Whatever activity absorbed her at any given moment, she was always ready to lay it aside to welcome a visit from her friends and family. A practical, patient, kind, loving, and very intelligent lady, Lois Jean Brown will be missed by all who knew her.
A graveside service will be held on WEDNESDAY, March 18, 2020, at 11AM in the Maplewood Cemetery, New Albany with Rev. Maxine Smith-Pierce officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery 15 minutes prior to service. A celebration of life service for Jean will be held later at Wesley Ridge Retirement Home.
