Our dear mother, Mitsuko Saito Pestona, passed away peacefully on September 26th, 2022 at the age of 93 with her loved ones close. Mitzi was a caring and wonderful mother of five children, nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Mitzi was born on January 31st, 1929 in Tokyo, Japan. There, she met and married Anthony Pestona on December 23rd, 1953. She spent the following 30 years serving as a military spouse and raising her family. She took great pride in the blessings and joy that her family brought her. She loved knitting, crocheting, origami, making Japanese dolls, working on Sudoku puzzles, and maintaining her plants and flowers. She collected gargoyles, loved opera music, and was a huge Ohio State Football fan. When family visited, she took everyone out to enjoy a Massey's Pizza or two!
Mitzi is preceded in death by her husband, Anthony, and her sons, Anthony Jr. and John. She is survived by her daughter Tina (Dan) Miracle and her sons Randy (Nancy) Pestona and Robert (Kathy) Pestona. Her grandchildren include Amy (Mark) Buck, Robert (Casey) Pestona, Nathan (Margaret) Miracle, Timothy (Brittaney) Miracle, Jason Pestona, Evan (Marisa) Pestona, Andrew (Hannah) Pestona, April Whisenant, and Alex Whisenant. Her great-grandchildren include Oliver Miracle, Wesley Miracle, Brock Buck, Tealyn Buck, Evan Miracle, Owen Miracle, Emma Pestona, Johnathan Pestona, and Everleigh Pestona.
Please join the family for the visitation from 6-8pm on Friday, September 30th, 2022 at the Pfeifer Funeral Home (7915 East Main Street, Reynoldsburg, OH 43068). The funeral service to celebrate Mitzi's life will also be at the Pfeifer Funeral Home at 10am on Saturday, October 1st, 2022. Mitzi's interment will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery (6440 South High Street, Lockbourne, OH 43137). The family especially thanks the staffs at The Trinity Community at Beavercreek and at The Ohio Hospice of Dayton for their attention, respect, kindness, and care of Mitzi. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Ohio State University's Parkinson's and Movement Disorders Division are greatly appreciated. Donations can be made online at https://www.giveto.osu.edu/makeagift/?fund=317289 or by check, payable to The Parkinson's and Movement Disorders Support Fund (OSU Foundation, P.O. Box 710811, Columbus, OH 43271). This was close to Mitzi's heart since Parkinson's effected both Anthony, Jr. and John.
