Verdell (Hamilton) Byrd

Verdell (Hamilton) Byrd was born July 27, 1920, in Ninety Six South Carolina to Orville and Geraldine Hamilton. She transitioned to her eternal home on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023 at the age of 102 years. Her family moved to Columbus, Ohio in her youth. Verdell graduated from East High in 1940 and went on to attend Bliss Business College where she majored in Accounting. Verdell met and married Robert Bryd in August 1951 and traveled as a spouse of the military in and out the country before returning to Ohio and settling in Columbus.

She was a devoted wife, daughter, niece, aunt, cousin and friend to all who knew her.
Verdell was preceded in death by parents, Orville and Geraldine Hamilton; Sister Ruth Lynch; Mother-in love, Alama L Bankston; Aunt, Louise Lathem; Sisters in-love, Marjorie Venny and Roise M Reid; Husband, Robert J Bryd; nieces, Paula Lindsay and Pamela Yearwood.

Warm memories and love remain to be cherished by, Sanderth Shepherd, of Columbus Ohio, Lewis (Sandra) Hemphill, of Dallas Texas, Patricia (Barry) Henderson of Columbus Ohio, LaVerne Shaw of Reynoldsburg Ohio, Vincent Reid of Columbus Ohio, and Donald Reid of Los Angeles California; a host of nieces and nephews, Church family and friends. Oldest and dearest friends Mrs. Barbara Allison and Mrs. Ann Walker.

Verdell received Christ as a young woman. She joined Bethany Presbyterian Church of Columbus Ohio, were the pastor is Edward Lewis and Dr. Denise Lewis. As a dedicated member she served as a trustee, worked with Deacon Board, and taught Sunday School.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm, THURSDAY, April 20, 2023 at Pfeifer Funeral Home in Reynoldsburg. Homegoing services will immediately follow at 12:00 pm with Minister Vincent Reid, II delivering the Eulogy. Interment will follow in Northlawn Memory Gardens in Westerville.
