Vernon D. Freeman, 93 passed away March 29, 2022. Vernon was born in Cambridge Ohio December 21, 1928 and was the son of the late Lillie Mae Atchison and Truman Freeman. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1947, and served in the US Navy, where he was assigned to Jacksonville Naval Air Base Hospital in Florida. On June 12, 1949 Vernon married Dorothy Williams, and they shared 70 years of marriage. Vernon joined the Plumbers & Pipefitters Union Local #189 in 1952, and worked on many construction jobs in central Ohio. Vernon enjoyed belonging to the Masonic Fraternity, where he became a member of Neoacacia Lodge #595 in 1958 and served as Worshipful Master in 1969, and transferred to Hiram Lodge #18. He was a member of York Chapter RAM and High priest in 1981, served as the District Deputy Grand High Priest 1983-1988 and received the Distinguished Service award in 1978. He was a member of York Council and served as the Illustrious Master in 1978. He belonged to Columbus Commandry and later transferred to St Lukes #34 where he served as Commander in 1983, and received the KYCH in 1983. He was a member of the Aladdin Shrine in Columbus, a member of the Scottish Rite, a member of Corinthian Chapter #393 OES, serving as the Worthy Patron, and then transferred to Worthington Chapter. He was a member of High 12, Palm Harbor Chapter and served as the Sergeant of Arms. Vernon was a member of the Clearwater Sons of the American Revolution and member of Heritage United Methodist Church in Florida. Vernon and Dorothy retired to Florida in 1997 and enjoyed collecting seashells and walking on the beach together. Vernon is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; brother, Richard; sister, Evelyn Johnson; sister, Thelma Hawkins and his parents. He is survived by his children, David (Linda) Freeman, Deborah (James)Balding and Diane (William) Rinehart and his grandchildren, Christina Balding of Lexington Ky, Patrick Balding of Athens Ohio, Cara Loughley of Pickerington Ohio. He is also survived by his sister, Charlene Arthur of Mansfield Ohio, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be held FRIDAY, April 8, 2022 at the Pfeifer Funeral Home, Reynoldsburg Ohio from 11 AM until 12:30PM. A Masonic Service and the Memorial Service will follow.
