Today the deer on Pickle’s Ridge can rest a little easier.
After a life filled with “chaos, mayhem, and pandemonium,” William W. (Pickle) Van Sickle left this world to soar with his beloved eagles on January 31, 2021. The treasured husband, father, proud Peepo, and friend was born on August 31, 1951, to the late William VanSickle (Mary) and Shan Mann (Hugh.) William is greatly missed by his loving wife of 52 years, Debra; son, William (Joey); daughter, Lisa, (Jerome); granddaughters, Sarah and Maggie; Harry, the dog; sister Susie, nieces and nephews, and many, many “Brothers.” In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Beth McCombs. William retired from the City of Columbus and The Kroger Company. An avid outdoorsman, Bill could often be found in a tree stand, on a boat, or at The Club with a Busch Light in his hand and a story on his lips. He was a member of the Fairfield Fish and Game Club where he loved to work their youth deer hunts and fishing tournaments and helped prepare for their famous Easter Egg Hunts as well as relax with friends. He never met a stranger and had nicknames for everyone. Due to Covid, a private family service is being held, with a larger celebration of his life in the form of a fishing tournament to follow in the spring. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to “The Good Doctor,” Janine Vado, and Ohio’s Hospice. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the Fairfield Fish and Game Club or the American Cancer Society. Online condolences available at
